MY RECOMENDATION

A wonderful place you can not miss is the incredible island of San Andres and Providencia, the area is northeast of the island of Providencia

Description of the Area

The mangrove forest protected within the park is the most representative and best preserved in the archipelago.  The protected area includes McBean Lagoon and the Keys of Los Tres Hermanos (The Three Brothers) and Cayo Cangrejo (Crab Key).  The park is the only area within the Colombian System of National Natural Parks in the insular oceanic Caribbean.  It has been a part of the Special Management Area for the Archipelago since 1996, within the Sea flower Biosphere Reserve since 2000, and one of the Protected Marine Areas of the Archipelago since 2004.

In its terrestrial portion the park is made up of a small isolated hill with steep slopes called Iron Wood Hill.  It rises to 150 meters above sea level.  Below it, in a flat alluvial trough, grow the mangroves around McBean Lagoon.  The marine area of the park is highlighted by a barrier reef, the second largest in the Caribbean-after Belice, which protects the coasts of Providence Island.  This great coral reef, with its varied formations, together with a reef lake formed in front of the McBean stand of mangroves, give the sea a spectacular gamut of colors from deep blue to a translucent aquamarine green.  It is thanks to this unique coloring that the sea around Providence is known as "The Sea of Seven Colors."
